Steve Neale & Nicholas Abercrombie Visual Essay

Nicholas Abercrombie identifies the use of genre for media products when he writes "television producers set out to exploit genre conventions". His argument is that media producers can re-use conventions, creating formulaic and conventional products that are familiar and appeal to the audience, but they are also likely to succeed and therefore are less risky for the producer.
